Yay!! As our Teach Digital Learners in a Digital Age course reaches its end, I can now say that I have acquired all the badges! However, there were a few that specifically stood out to me which are worth an honorable mention. The collaborator badge is the badge that guided - I believe us ALL - through the entirety of this course. If there were any misunderstandings or confusion, we created a sense of co-dependency and trust with our classmates in hopes that we could clear each others' confusions. And it worked. As a class, we were always eager to help when we noticed our friends struggling to grasp something new... because hey, we all felt lost at one point or another with the overload of information. Collaboration definitely helped me reach success in this course!
The Genius Hour badge...ahh, this one is probably my favourite. It was a wonderful way for Dave to implement a Problem Based Learning activity (PBL) and move away from the traditional story of education. I can honestly say our classroom did feel very non-traditional in the sense that all tasks were purposefully made student-centred and required application of our knowledge founded in trial-and-error methods using new resources. With a driving question that led us to actively research our own passions and deepest curiosities, the Genius Hour badge took us from exploring tools such as Powtoon, Twitter, Popplet, all the way to recording our final product, a TED Talk, onto Youtube. That is a lot of technology (plus WAY more) that I never imagined using so much over the duration of six weeks. But it was all so worth it, and we definitely are self-proclaimed "Geniuses" ;) !
And finally, the Digizen Badge is also significant to me as a future educator. This badge is definitely one I would like my own students to earn one day so that they may acknowledge the proper online etiquette consisting of internet safety, awareness of the consequences of cyber bullying, and how to properly cite images.
Wow..this will be a lot to implement into my own classroom one day but I feel more prepared to take on the challenge after having gone through the challenges of earning these badges myself! :)
So to you all... I raise my "Cup of Wisdom" in hopes that we all become mind shapers of a diverse, technology proficient community that values new knowledge and sharing it with others!
Until next time,
Have a beau-tea-ful evening! xo
